Our favourite guest bedroom must-haves

Overnight guests have felt like an ancient myth until recently and the lack of visitors for the last 18 months means guest rooms everywhere are looking a little neglected. But, it really does feel such a treat to be the host and welcome loved ones into our homes again and if you’re anything like us you want to make them feel special when they do stay the night. Today we’re sharing our favourite guest bedroom must-haves to inspire you for when your loved ones come to visit. The end goal is to create a restful and comfortable sanctuary for guests to retreat to which encourages them to unpack, settle in and have a memorable stay.

A COMFORTABLE BED

The ultimate guest bedroom must-have is a comfortable bed. A bad night’s sleep is not what you want your guests to take away from their stay with you, so it’s important to invest in a good quality mattress, or if budget is limited, mattress topper. If your mattress has been sitting unused for a while let it air for a couple of days before adding linen and rotate or turn if necessary for a soothing slumber for your guests.

SEASONAL BEDLINEN

I think a guest bedroom should be the perfect balance of homely and hotel. Both of these are centred around an inviting bed which your guests cannot wait to dive into. The base should be great quality, seasonally appropriate pillows and duvets (Hungarian goose feather and down duvets are our favourite) but of course, the only bed linen you need is Coco & Wolf’s Liberty fabric bedding. Our Tana Lawn cotton bedding is not only stunning to look at, in a multitude of Liberty’s iconic prints, but is unbeatably and luxuriously soft against the skin, ensuring your loved ones will feel extra special. In colder months layer up blankets and quilts at the foot of the bed for guests to cosy up under.

Guest bedroom must haves included Coco & Wolf's Liberty fabric bedding.

CONVERSATIONAL PIECES

You can afford to be brave in a guest bedroom, just make sure it remains harmonious and restful. We think the most successful way to do that is across textures and details. Think gorgeous oversized headboards in conversational prints. Velvet armchairs which encourage a guest to sink in and read a book. A fluffy underfoot rug or a luxury Liberty fabric lampshade. Any artwork from large scale framed posters to small letterpress greetings cards on shelves will pique your guests’ curiosity and interest and cushions in a plethora of shapes and prints scattered across beds and chairs will provide comfort and conversation, so go all out.

THOUGHTFUL TOUCHES

Guests remember the little details. The things which let your loved ones know you were thinking about them before they arrived. We love to include a Kilner jar of delicious biscuits, a scented candle and decorative matchbox, a stash of magazines and some wooden hangers in the wardrobe or on pegs. Make sure the bedside lamp gives off an ambient glow and there’s a full length mirror for them to use.
