Inspiring Interiors: Louise Roe

In the latest from our Inspiring Interiors series we caught up with author, fashion journalist, TV host and mum, Louise Roe. There’s a charming and unique eclecticism about Louise's home style and genuinely, we look forward to every. single. thing she posts on Instagram, whether that’s sharing her own home style or the interiors which inspire her. In a beautiful contrast to the often very modern and pared back interiors showcased on social media, Louise’s aesthetic is a celebration of maximalism and, something incredibly close to our Coco & Wolf hearts, patternity. Today we chat about Louise's return to the English countryside after a decade in LA, how her interior style has evolved and the approach towards her latest renovation project, a beautiful old English farmhouse.

Louise, we are absolutely head over heels for everything you post about your home’s style. What inspires your interior style aesthetic?

Oh thank you so much! I love a very classic, English, countryside feel. Anything lived-in, and not forced. Traditional prints, a little chintz here and there, and antiques mixed with more modern items.

Though you’ve not been in your new home long, do you already have a room or space you gravitate towards which makes you feel happy?

The whole house makes me happy, truly! I still walk into different rooms and pinch myself that it's really ours. My desk is a very special corner, it's next to a giant window in the drawing room, and full of my favourite books. I wanted to make the area where I work less of an office, and more somewhere cosy and creative. 

Is there an interior style you loved using in LA but wouldn’t use in your new home? Have you felt your style change when approaching your UK home renovation? 

My tastes have evolved a bit, but generally speaking, I've always loved the aesthetic I use now. I do believe you need to follow the feel of the house and your surroundings. In LA, with all that sunlight and so many modern homes, neutrals can look much warmer, and often need less decoration, but in England, the cosier, the better.

Renovating a home often leads to discovering interior designers - who have you discovered that really inspires you?

I always loved Ben Pentreath, Jane Churchill and Veere Grenney. There are lots of designers I also feel inspired by, including Matilda Goad, Tess Newson, Trove by Studio Duggan.

We like to think that here at Coco & Wolf we create heirloom products; pieces that become part of a carefully curated collection, all with stories to tell. Tell us the story behind one of your favourite pieces. 

I discovered Coco & Wolf on Instagram a couple of years ago, when I knew we were moving back to England but we hadn't even found a house yet. My husband thought I was crazy buying up all these items here and there for the 'new house', but I believe that when you know, you know! I bought a duvet cover, sheet and pillow case for my daughter's future bedroom, and she loves to climb into bed when it's not even bed time, just to get under those covers. It's so cute! 

Louise we are SO with you on the chintz and the cosy, English style! And you are absolutely right, when you know, you know. We're just so glad that our Coco & Wolf heirloom worthy pieces have found their way into your beautiful English farmhouse. We have a feeling anything and everything in Liberty fabrics will be right at home.
