During our teenage years most of us begin experimenting with our own personal style, whether that’s with clothing or interiors, moving bedrooms around and sticking posters on the walls. It’s in these years that many of us begin prioritising style over comfort. I say this with confidence as I spent at least 3 years of my own adolescence with a blow up plastic chair as my chosen place to relax - thanks fashion! Thankfully, by the time we’ve established confidence in our own interiors style, we’re generally a little more mature in our understanding of just how important comfort is.

STYLING YOUR SOFA: COLOUR PALETTE
A palette which threads throughout the room naturally creates a space which is comfortable and easy to relax in. A random colour introduced in just one place, a cushion for example, can feel jarring and out of balance. If you’d just like one shade as a highlight consider using decorative elements such as books, picture frames and lampshades to carry this colour in small touches alongside prints on the armchairs and sofas.
STYLING YOUR SOFA: ADD PERSONALITY
Being maximalists at heart means we’re naturally advocates of ignoring the old “less is more” saying, especially when dressing your sofa. Creating layers of colour and texture instantly invites you to sink amongst them, making your sofa look softer and feel cosier. Root your scheme and layers with a neutral or large scale print for your biggest cushions, then layer up with small ones in different prints for definition (not every cushion needs to be different here) and comfort. If you’re using multiple throws use different patterns and colours to ensure all are noticeable.
