The Importance of Sleep
We spend about a third of our lives sleeping. Sleep is important to our bodies as eating, drinking and breathing and is vital for maintaining good mental and physical health. Sleep rests our minds as well as our physical bodies after the days exertion and when our sleep is disturbed it is one of the first signs that things need looking at with our mental health.
At some point most of us have been in bed and have been unable to switch off our minds from the information swirling round after a busy day. Poor sleep can increase the risk of poor health and poor health can make it harder to sleep.
Good sleep hygiene is important. Our environment is key to achieve this. From the colours on the bedroom walls (choose calming neutral colours rather than more stimulating colours) to the lighting by our bedside, this area should be well thought out to aid sleep.
Routine at bedtime will help improve sleep, so going to bed at the same time where possible and rising at the same time will help get your body into a pattern. Avoid blue light in the bedroom and try to leave your phone elsewhere.
Your bed itself is important and the mattress is a good starting point. If you don’t like your mattress but aren’t in a position to replace it, a mattress topper can be a good solution. A good quality pillow can cushion your neck and promote spinal alignment in conjunction with your mattress.
Bedding is important, choose a fabric that helps to regulate your body temperature and avoid non synthetic wherever possible. Our Liberty Print fabrics are all made with luxurious silky soft cotton which help your body remain cool but will keep you warm at the same time. The patterns themselves will make you feel happy when you go to bed, the floral beauty and stunning designs. Our customers feedback on how much joy they bring.
If you are still struggling with falling asleep, despite a good sleep routine then try some relaxation techniques such as guided sleep meditation, or deep breathing. The goal of these techniques is to reduce the stress or anxiety that may come about from struggling to fall asleep.
