Colour of the Year, the Coco & Wolf way
Every December, while most of the world anticipates Christmas, the interiors world waits with bated breath for the announcement of the Colour of the Year. This influential colour often shapes many interior and product design decisions throughout the year and this year’s vivacious shade will be no different. Introducing, Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta.
Viva Magenta is a nuanced crimson inspired by the red of cochineal with raspberry hints and is described by Pantone as “a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.” While warm tones have very much been on the design radar for a while, this vibrant raspberry red feels exciting and modern and lends itself particularly well to the maximalism Coco & Wolf loves.
Colour of the Year | The Prints
Viva Magenta is guaranteed to enliven any space and while this animated tone won’t be to everyone’s taste introduced in a bold, statement-making way, it remains transformative even when used in subtle references such as soft furnishings and accessories. When thinking about colour and print pairings magenta works fantastically alongside pale blush, sand, grey lilac, pale khaki and grey greens.
As is almost always the case, Liberty fabrics are one step ahead, and we can see wonderful examples of this beautiful colour in scores of their groundbreaking prints, many of which are used in our latest products. As Coco & Wolf always champions, changing your bedding is one of the most effective ways to introduce a new colour to your room and thankfully, magenta is victorious at elevating neutrals or adding to a maximalist scheme. Why not consider some of the prints below for introducing elements of Viva Magenta in your home?
Originally designed by William Morris in 1884, Lodden is a true Liberty classic of the Arts and Crafts style. In this colour way, vivacious magenta accents are combined with khaki green, grey blue and blush to create a beautiful show-stopping design.
In Eva Belle Raspberry, the jewel-like magenta works effortlessly alongside sand and blush in a Tree of Life arrangement featuring stylised florals with winding leaves and intricately shaded petals.
Betsy in Deep Pink unapologetically lets magenta be the star of the show and we love it for it! This Liberty favourite also triumphantly incorporates warm orange and a verdant green within its much loved small stylised floral design.
You can also find magenta tones in our beautiful Donna Leigh exclusive, Luna Belle, Classic Meadow and D’Anjo prints.
So what do you think? Will you be adding this warm, vibrant magenta shade to your home and if so will you be repainting or adding subtle nods to the print? We would love to see the ways in which you incorporate Viva Magenta.
