Coco & Wolf's Guide to Celebrating The Jubilee in London
This June, Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 70 years on the throne with the much anticipated, Platinum Jubilee. The official Jubilee weekend takes place from 2nd June to 5th June, seeing Great Britain and the commonwealth celebrating Britain’s longest-reigning monarch across four days. Alongside celebratory street parties taking part all over the country, and jubilant picnics in gardens and parks, there are also a whole range of official events in London over the four day weekend as part of this year’s Jubilee celebrations and we’re sharing the run down so you can get organised.
CELEBRATING THE JUBILEE | THURSDAY 2ND JUNE
The first of the four day weekend sees The Queen’s Birthday Parade at Buckingham Palace, also known as Trooping the Colour. More than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians will come together in the traditional Parade to mark The Queen’s official birthday. Beginning at Buckingham Palace, the Parade will move down The Mall to Horse Guard’s Parade, joined by members of the Royal Family on horseback and in carriages. The Parade will close with the traditional RAF fly-past, watched by The Queen and members of the Royal Family from the Buckingham Palace balcony.
Beacons will also be lit in the Platinum Jubilee Beacon event - a long standing British tradition used to mark the occasions of Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations.
CELEBRATING THE JUBILEE | FRIDAY 3RD JUNE
St Paul’s Cathedral will hold a historic Service of Thanksgiving for The Queen’s reign on Friday 3rd June. The service will include bible readings, anthems, prayers and congregational hymns, expressing thankfulness for The Queen’s reign, faith and service; desire to foster unity and peace amongst all peoples; and commitment to care for God’s creation.
CELEBRATING THE JUBILEE | SATURDAY 4TH JUNE
The BBC are hosting Platinum Party at The Palace, a live concert at Buckingham Palace bringing together the world’s biggest entertainers to perform for a night of musical tributes to celebrate The Queen.
CELEBRATING THE JUBILEE | SUNDAY 5TH JUNE
The Platinum Jubilee Pageant, taking place around the area of Buckingham Palace, will have all the excitement and spectacle of an international parade and carnival – awe-inspiring and filled with marvel and delight. The Pageant will combine street arts, theatre, music, circus, carnival and costume to celebrate Her Majesty’s unwavering duty, love of the natural world and dedication to the Commonwealth. The Big Jubilee Lunch will also be celebrated in street parties all over the country.
