A Thanksgiving Table
Originating as a day of giving thanks for a bountiful harvest and dating back to the 1600s, Thanksgiving remains one of America’s most widely celebrated holidays. And while we may not celebrate it actively here in the UK, Coco & Wolf wanted to create a beautiful table which would lend itself equally well to being the centrepiece of a thanksgiving celebration for our American friends or an autumnal feast for anyone else. In uncertain times, gathering all of your loved ones round a table to share a meal can bring unending joy and we’ll never shy away from that.
Our thanksgiving table is rooted in nature. A gentle appreciation for the origins of the harvest festival, with floral table linen sitting alongside shelled nuts and verdant herbs. Think mellow homeliness reminiscent of autumnal American classic films like Meg Ryan’s You’ve Got Mail. The table will offer a touch of warmth against the diminishing light of autumn - with candles and lamps creating an intimate and magical feel. The perfect place for a slow, meandering meal, peppered with thankfulness for nature’s abundance and all else we have to appreciate.
A Colour Scheme for Thanksgiving
Our table is full of warm hues which reflect the tones of nature at this time of year. Golden mustard and burnt paprika, rust and terracotta tones sit side by side with an unexpected blue pop for interest. In our opinion, three is always the magic number, so here you will find three complementary Liberty fabrics, Thorpe in Rust, D’Anjo in Mustard and Wiltshire Bud in Rust working effortlessly together across napkins, placemats, table runners and cloths.
Muted coloured glassware continues the organic feel and lets the Liberty table linen sing, while paprika splatter crockery feels celebratory and fun. While we’re absolutely not encouraging you to switch up furniture for one meal, the dark wood we’ve used in this thanksgiving scheme on the wishbone dining chairs contrasts beautifully with the Coco & Wolf linen.
Seasonal Flourishes and Finishing Touches
Thanksgiving and celebrating autumn and the harvest feel the perfect times to add seasonal flourishes throughout our homes. It’s why we often see mantles dressed with ornamental gourds! On your table consider adding dried flowers, foraged-for seed heads and trinket dishes and ceramic ramekins filled with nuts in their shells for a real organic grounding. We’ve also used barley twist candle sticks for a gentle nod to the connecting nature thread which runs throughout our table.
When giving thanks for friendship and love, personalised touches feel just right so consider adding place names in complementary tones. Tie these round the stems of glasses, stand them proud above the place setting or gather napkins with them.
