Our Favourite Window Box Blooms

Our Favourite Window Box Blooms - Coco & Wolf

Our love for flowers and foliage knows no bounds, from the beautiful florals of our favourite Liberty prints right through to wonderful window boxes, abundant hedgerows and glorious gardens. We’re big believers that no view is framed quite as well as when done so with blooms, so today we're sharing our favourite florals for window boxes. Everything we're sharing is lovely to look at and low maintenance, creating boxes which will last right through until the first frost (we promise not to mention this again after SUCH a long Winter!) and, even better, you should find everything in your local nursery or garden centre.

Coco & Wolf's Favourite Window Box Blooms | Pelargoniums

Commonly known as geraniums, these easy to grow, seasonal plants are little sun worshippers, perfect for dry and sunny window sills. If you keep deadheading, pelargoniums are abundant and will flower all Summer right through until the first frosts. We use both trailing and upright varieties in our window boxes, in all tones from soft lilac and apricot through to vibrant pink and rich aubergine.

Coco & Wolf's Favourite Window Box Blooms | Erigeron Karvinskianus

These delicate daisy like flowers are fantastic for those among us who truly want low maintenance boxes. They flower right through until November if you keep deadheading, but even without a green thumb, they will spread of their own accord, creating great coverage with masses of flowers. Also known as Mexican Fleabane, these are a window box staple.

Coco & Wolf's Favourite Window Box Blooms | Lobularia Maritima

Commonly known as Sweet Alyssum, these semi-trailing and dainty fillers look fantastic when paired with larger blooms for a variety of scale. They are happiest in full sun, have a long flowering season and a wonderful scent. A must have for all of your Summer containers, just make sure to pop some feet under your window box so water doesn't pool, as they don't like soggy roots!

Coco & Wolf's Favourite Window Box Blooms | Verbena

Sturdy and sun-loving, Verbena look great right through til Winter adding colour, height and interest to your view. They will flower profusely with some deadheading and look beautiful when mixed with Pelargoniums and foliage. Pink and purple varieties are easy to find but it's worth searching a little harder for white and pale lilac counterparts - you won't be disappointed.

Coco & Wolf's Favourite Window Box Blooms | Herbs

Go right back to window boxes' roots, if you'll pardon the pun, by adding herbs to your containers. Lots will grow very happily in sunny window boxes but our favourites are Marjoram and Thyme. Both work really well when paired with any of the florals we've mentioned above, adding a lovely foliage and scent, plus, you can snip from them when cooking as a great added bonus!

We're going to spend the weekend planting up some pelargonium and herb filled boxes to adorn our south facing window sill now the sun has decided to put in an appearance. There's a certain timeless charm about window boxes, we're sure you'll agree, so we would love to know what flowers and foliage are going in yours?
