Five Minutes with Coco & Wolf Studio Assistant, Emma
Each and every Coco & Wolf product has a story, one which begins with the design of the fabric and long continues once it arrives in your home. In between these points, whether it is a pillowcase, picnic blanket or dress, it is in the safe hands of a team who are fully immersed in everything we create. And our team are pretty special, they are at the heart of all we do which is why we felt it was so important to introduce them to you! Today, in our "Five Minutes with..." series we introduce you to our studio assistant, Emma.
Tell us a little bit about your role as Studio Assistant, what does a typical day look like?
"Usually the first thing I do when I get to the studio is check emails and respond to any customer queries. I have a catch up with our founder, Amy and discuss all that needs to be done during the day and once the seamstresses have finished making all the beautiful Liberty fabric products I will package up orders ready for their new homes! Towards the end of the day I usually schedule some Facebook posts for the Coco & Wolf page and do a general tidy and organise of the studio so its all ready for the next day."
What was life like pre-Coco & Wolf?
"Before Coco & Wolf I was doing a degree in Textile Design for Fashion & Interiors at Bath Spa University, specialising in woven textiles. I really enjoyed creating and designing fabrics by hand and would love to get back into that at some point. I also worked as a sales assistant at Phase Eight for two years alongside studying. I joined Coco & Wolf straight after finishing university and I've been part of the team for 8 months now. It’s been the perfect job for me after graduating as I have gained more experience in a creative industry whilst drawing on my retail experience. I have always loved Liberty fabric so I feel super lucky to be working with the beautiful prints on a daily basis."
"I love how varied my role is. I have some involvement with every aspect of the company, from helping with new product designs to picking out new season prints and even sewing!"
Which is your favourite Liberty fabric and why?
"My favourite Liberty fabric is Strawberry Thief in silk. It’s a print designed by William Morris in 1883 and I absolutely love the rich tones of blues and pinks. I am a huge fan of all the silk prints we stock as the colours are so vibrant and have a lovely luxurious feel."
What do you enjoy most about your job as Studio Assistant?
"I love how varied my role is. I have some involvement with every aspect of the company, from helping with new product designs to picking out new season prints and even sewing! I love how if I want to get involved in something I am welcome to. There are no set boundaries within my role which I feel is quite a unique thing. Working in a pretty village surrounded by countryside and having friendly colleagues is also a big bonus!"
Which is your favourite Coco & Wolf product?
"I would love to take all of our products home!! I have one of our duvet sets in a custom print selection; Annabella Green on one side and Katie and Millie on the other. I chose the print pairing myself which makes it extra special and, of course, Liberty Tana Lawn is super soft so it's always very inviting to snuggle into. In the future I'm lusting after some frill edge pillowcases - they are one of my favourite recent designs which Coco & Wolf have released and they are just so pretty!"
When you’re not working what do you enjoy doing?
"I use the weekend to really wind down after a busy week in the studio. I love doing Pilates in the morning as that usually helps wake me up. I do a lot of baking and sometimes bring in my bakes so everyone in the studio can try them which always goes down well! I also try and run around 3-4 times a week - I use the time to get away from my phone and enjoy being outside. Living in Bath means there are plenty of beautiful walks to go on so I’m always out exploring new areas. In the evenings I will usually wind down by reading a book or watching a film."
I am lusting after the frill edge pillowcases too, such a beautiful design! I'm sure you will agree it has been so lovely to get to know more about Emma. I particularly loved hearing how her degree experience has been seen through in her role at Coco & Wolf. If you have another five minutes spare why not get to know our founder, Amy or Studio Manager, Paula?
