The Joy of Gathering
There’s no denying, last year’s more pared back celebrations seem to have really upped the ante when it comes to planning for this year's impending Christmas season. While the world has been talking about the joy of missing out recently it’s suddenly shifted as we now enjoy the anticipation of spending time with our nearest and dearest during the season of good cheer.
Personally, the joy of gathering has certainly been emphasised by the last two years. I’ve questioned many times whether I appreciated the unrestricted times of gathering before our world was upended and almost always conclude, probably not. And we must acknowledge, it’s not for everyone, some people don’t enjoy the season, or gathering, but for those of us who do delight in it - what are those joys?
For me, it’s as simple as everyone together. It’s the excitement which springs from the doorbell’s chimes knowing your favourite faces are on the other side of the door. The squealing of over-excited children, racing along the hallways noisily, and the rapturous laughter which unfalteringly proceeds my grandfather’s abundant delivery of all the coins he found in his slice of Christmas pudding.
I think what I’m trying to say is memorable moments, both big and small, are so often created during times of gathering. Whether it’s you and your other half, a group of friends or the entire extended family. The celebration, the joy and the comfort of being surrounded by loved ones is a feeling I’m looking forward to appreciating this year. We’d love to know some of the joy you get from gathering? What memories are you most looking forward to making?
